  • Über mich
Sandra de Haan ('69) studied illustration and graphic techniques at the Willem de Kooning academy in Rotterdam. In 92 she began making illustrations for magazines, graphic designers, educational publishers and newspapers. In her spare time she makes colourful linocuts (see website). She also writes reviews and articles for Zone 5300 magazine about music and literature. In 2002 she started making comics because working with other peoples ideas was becoming too limiting. The career move wasnt a big step at all because her cartoonish illustrations started to have more and more words in them anyway. She discovered that storytelling was far more satisfying than just making pretty pictures. And that good dialogue is more important than nice drawings. So far, she published five full colour albums in Dutch, called Teevee Blablazee, containing autobiographical stories with the occasional absurd twist. Favourite topics: tv, advertising, work, love, friends, Rotterdam, Rabbits, Film Festivals, fashion, culture and everyday agonies. In the future, a printed collection of English translations will hopefully see the light. Until then, go to www.sandradehaan.nl to read the English comics. Regularly updated.
