The Monger is an ancient order devoted to locating and safeguarding alien technology that is too dangerous for the world. They operate through a lone agent whose mission is to secure these artifacts at all costs. However, during World War II, the assigned agent became more interested in chasing glory as a war hero than in fulfilling his duty. Using the technology and its knowledge to bolster his own reputation, he neglected the very real threat of these artifacts falling into the wrong hands - of which there were many in 1942.
